BCI Women in Resilience (WiR) leaders reflect on their term
As the term of the current leadership of the BCI’s Women in Resilience (WiR) Special Interest Group (SIG) comes to a conclusion, the group's Leader and Vice Leader have taken time to reflect upon their roles, the impact they have had on the group, as well as pass on some advice for the incoming leadership.

Taking on the leadership position for the BCI WiR SIG has been a deeply impactful journey for me, particularly in understanding the importance of representation in the resilience industry and how it can have profound, and positive, effects. As I navigated the role, I felt a strong sense of responsibility to ensure that women in the industry were not only heard, but also actively included and empowered. Seeing the impact of our efforts first-hand — whether through the success of our events, the connections forged between women, or the discussions sparked around allyship — solidified not only the significance of representation, but also why the WiR SIG is so important.
Passing on the baton as I conclude my tenure with the BCI WiR SIG is bittersweet. However, I am confident that the foundation I have built together with the committee, coupled with the passion and dedication of those stepping into leadership roles, will propel the committee forward to even greater heights. As I reflect on my experience, I offer a few tips for those continuing to champion representation in the resilience industry:
Stay focused on the mission of BCI WiR: Keep sight of the overarching goal of supporting women through diversity, inclusion, and resilience initiatives within the industry. Let this mission guide your actions and decisions, specifically around the tools to empowerment.
Listen actively: Actively listen to the needs and voices of underrepresented groups within the industry. Seek feedback and incorporate diverse perspectives into your strategies and initiatives.
Lead by example: Demonstrate your commitment to representation and resilience through your actions. Be an advocate, ally, and mentor to others in the industry and provide guidance and tools to enable this.
Celebrate progress: Continue to take the time to celebrate achievements, both big and small, along the journey. Recognise and acknowledge the contributions of individuals and teams towards the shared vision of a more inclusive and resilient industry.

Thank you for the opportunity to have been involved with the BCI WiR SIG since 2019. I would like to extend my best wishes to the new leadership and the members going forward.
A significant amount of my time with the WiR has been in the capacity of mentoring. Creating a supportive network is one of the key reasons why women mentoring women is important. By connecting with other women who have similar experiences and challenges, mentees can find a sense of belonging and support. Mentoring provides a safe space for mentees to share their thoughts, concerns, and aspirations, knowing that they are being heard and understood. This network of support can help mentees navigate through obstacles and provide guidance on personal and professional matters.
Celebrate women - All around you right now there may be women who are doubting if they have what it takes to stay the course toward their boldest ambitions; women who are struggling to keep faith in themselves or just keep their head above water. Get behind them. Encourage their dreams. Acknowledge their strengths. Champion their success. Amplify their voice. Never underestimate the profound impact a few words of encouragement can have on the trajectory of another woman.
There has never been a better time to be part of WiR. The group is more focused on diversity and inclusion than ever before. As a member you can:
