News-Shaping the future of resilience my experience as a Future Leader at the BCI.jpg

As my term as the first Future Leader Board Associate on the Board of the BCI has come to an end, it’s a good moment to take a look back at the journey travelled. And what a two years it has been!

During these two years I have grown in ways I never thought possible. Firstly, I have learned how a global membership organization is run, what it consists of in practice, and the importance of well-structured governance - it constructs a secure basis for the existence of the whole organization. Secondly, I have learned how strategic decisions are made and how global phenomena impact an organization’s operations on strategic and operative levels - these together steer the organization and give it a clear direction. Finally, I have learned that it’s the people that matter the most in the end. Having competent people who share similar passions and work towards the common goal – that is what makes an organization’s heart beat. And with the BCI, it’s truly the members who make it beat!

This opportunity also enabled me to meet dozens of brilliant minds within the field of resilience from all around the world and make long-lasting connections with whom I cannot wait to meet again in upcoming events. It’s not every day that a young, curious mind from the land of Santa Claus and reindeer gets to have impactful conversations with like-minded resilience professionals from different continents sitting in the same room. That is what the BCI is truly about for me – it’s not just an organization or a platform, but an opportunity to make an impact on a global scale and to learn from each other along the way. In fact, through the BCI and its active members, I have been able to learn even more about the industry and how resilience is built all around the world.

The Future Leader programme definitely equipped me to succeed in the industry in the future, but it also enabled me to leave my mark on ensuring the BCI takes into consideration the future generations in years to come. It is with great honour that I now leave my position on the global board for my successor – but worry not, this won’t be the last you’ll hear of me. I will continue working with the BCI and the next Future Leader to ensure the BCI remains resilient in the future changing world.

The future is in the next generations – so stay tuned!
