New committee for BCI USA Chapter
The BCI is pleased to announce the results of the BCI USA Chapter’s committee elections.
The newly appointed committee is:
- Gayle Anders MBCI – Leader
- Dan Olbur MBCI – Vice Leader
- Cary Jasgur FBCI – Committee member
- Melissa Mack MBCI– Committee member
- Scott Baldwin – Committee member
- Austin Cruz – Committee member
- Andrew Tillman CBCI – Committee member
- Jill Caputi – Future Leader
The committee would like to thank Melissa Mack and Cary Jasgur for their leadership roles over the past year and for their continuing dedication as committee members going forward.
Gayle Anders MBCI, new leader of the Chapter said:
I am honoured to serve as Leader for the BCI USA Chapter alongside vice-leader, Dan Olbur, and the rest of the BCI USA Chapter members. I have been a member of the BCI for a few years now and I have been nothing short of impressed with the global representation of business continuity, resilience, and crisis management professionals.
I retired from the United States Marine Corps in 2021 and jumped headfirst into a role in business continuity. The professional network I have grown within the BCI has absolutely contributed to my success at Netflix managing the BC programme. I accepted this role because I know I could do more to contribute to the craft of BC and resilience. More importantly, I did not find success alone and it was because of the mentors and leaders within the BCI that I want to do my part and give back to our community.
During this next year, I will work with the team to focus on current themes of member engagement, encouraging new talent, and finding opportunities for the BCI to become the place where practitioners want to be for professional growth and networking.
Dan Olbur, MBCI vice leader said:
I have been a member of the BCI for a long time and saw an opportunity to bring my industry experience to the committee. Business continuity has given me a career, for which I am grateful, and I find it important to give back. One of my hopes is to help to be a guide to the younger generation and show them how a career in our area is worthwhile and fulfilling.
There are many opportunities and challenges in our industry, but the one thing that we have that some others don’t in business is visibility at all levels. We can pick-up ideas, share thoughts, work with leaders, and build skills to become leaders ourselves. To do this, I hope to be a mentor or collaborator with others in our field. Perhaps connecting with universities here in North America or other places to recruit new talent into our fold. I hope that there are opportunities to do that in this role and with the resources provided by the BCI.
This year’s upcoming themes and initiatives
Here, Gayle and Dan discuss some of the upcoming initiative, themes and events over the coming year.
The BCI USA Chapter’s vision is to foster a resilient and prepared business continuity and resilience community of professionals across the nation. We will achieve this by advancing the practice of business continuity and resilience, promoting best practices, and empowering professionals through education, collaboration, and innovation. Our commitment is to ensure that professionals of all experience levels and industries are equipped with the necessary resources to support their programmes’ success for the companies they represent.
Member engagement
The Chapter is keen to involve members in its initiatives. Chapters foster a sense of belonging. We encourage members to share their thoughts and experiences and hope that leaders within our current members will come prepared to share their story, provide examples, and demonstrate how their programmes provide value for their companies and its leadership.
Encouraging new talent
We hope to encourage both established practitioners and new professionals to the Chapter by openly collaborating with current members to invite non-members to our monthly Fireside Chats where they can see the value of membership and incorporate best practices from others in similar industries to make their programmes more comprehensive and meaningful for the companies they represent.
The USA Chapter is seeing an increase of BC professionals that are making deliberate decisions to start careers in this discipline which means the word is getting out about BC. Often, people find themselves in BC roles due to staff shortfalls or other reasons, and in order to ensure the success of our emerging new talent we must create a roadmap of career progression so that new talent has a North Star they can align to in their careers.
Ongoing programmes
The Future Leader programme was started in the USA Chapter. Our newest Future Leader, Jill Caputi, brings fresh ideas to the role. An area of interest she is passionate about is helping students and new professionals find their way in the business resilience space. When she was in graduate school, she knew she wanted to land a job in business resilience but had a hard time finding a professional organization that provided continued learning and networking opportunities for students. She would love to be able to find a way to drive students to the BCI to benefit both the BCI itself, as well as the students.

Monthly Fireside Chats – Free-flowing discussions cover topics ranging from resiliency, organizational structure, leadership, crisis management, and business continuity. Bring a drink, come with questions, and join us for an enjoyable conversation.
BCI World Hybrid Conference October 2024 - BCI World Hybrid is the BCI's annual global conference that brings together business continuity and resilience professionals, managers and practitioners from all over the world. The conference programme offers a variety of engaging sessions on business continuity, organizational resilience, operational resilience, as well as related disciplines including crisis management, emergency planning, personal resilience and more.
